Supply and demand

When you eat meat, eggs or diary, you are, possibly without realising it, creating the demand. When ever there is a demand there is a supply, for a profit, this is business. So if you are eating meat, eggs or diary you are creating the need for cruelty and slaughter, it is no one elses fault. You can't eat a bit of an animal with out that animal being killed for your meal. It's whole life was destroyed for your 10 min meal.

This is why we need to be vegan.

So why be vegan?

"Why be vegan?"?

  • Because it stops the needless cruelty and slaughter of trillions of sentient beings each year.
  • We all need to be vegan because we are killing the oceans and if they die we die.
  • Most of the rainforest is destroyed to produce soya which is used to feed cattle.
  • Becoming vegan significantly reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer.
  • One of the most noticable effects of a vegan diet is the sense of physical and mental well being that is experienced within the first four weeks.
  • On a well balanced vegan diet, weight loss is inevitable.
  • More carbon dioxide is produced by cattle than by the whole of the transport system.
  • Growing crops takes up much less space than it takes to raise cattle.
  • Not being vegetarian, vegetarians still support the meat industry when they buy dairy products.
  • If we learn to be less cruel to animals we might learn to be less cruel to each other.
  • Being vegan is compatible with all religions.
  • If we don't all adopt a vegan diet, no child under the age of five will reach retirement age.
  • When we fully understand how animals are being exploited for profit and how it is being hidden from us, then we will start to see how layers of the population are also being exploited for profit.
  • If you are not vegan you are part of the world's problems.
  • It's really easy to become vegan just swap the items on your shopping list and you are vegan.
  • Becoming vegan gives you a sense of pride in that you are making a real difference in saving the planet and it's wildlife.
  • Adopting a vegan diet is the single most effective direct action that we can all take without having to wait for politicians to sanction it or for businesses to drive it. It is the least effort for the greatest returns. Don't wait/waste another day!

The average meat eater will eat 7,000 animals.

According to the Vegetarian Calculator, a meat eater will on average eat 7,000 animals during the course of their lives. It breaks down to 11 cows, 27 pigs, 2,400 chickens, 80 turkeys, 30 sheep and 4,500 fish, according to the group.
That is a lot of bad energy to be putting in your body!

What's wrong with the world?

The earth is suffering from environmental destruction, deforestation of the rainforest, the alarming rate of deaths from heart disease and cancer amongst the population, the increasing amount of greenhouse gases, the rising rate of human injustice, and cruelty. Further to this it is claimed by Philip Woollen that any child under the age of five won't get to reach retirement age due to the destruction of the oceans.
Being vegan addresses all these problems and prevent the needless suffering of 74 billion land animals and 2.7 trillion sea creatures.
On a secondary note a Texas Observer article reports that slaughterhouse workers face negative emotional and psychological consequences, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Becoming vegan will also prevent this type of human suffering.

The vegan diet - NHS

There is no cholesterol in plants.

It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that appropriately planned vegetarian, including vegan, diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood, and for athletes. Plant-based diets are more environmentally sustainable than diets rich in animal products because they use fewer natural resources and are associated with much less environmental damage. Vegetarians and vegans are at reduced risk of certain health conditions, including ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, certain types of cancer, and obesity. Low intake of saturated fat and high intakes of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, soy products, nuts, and seeds (all rich in fiber and phytochemicals) are characteristics of vegetarian and vegan diets that produce lower total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and better serum glucose control. These factors contribute to reduction of chronic disease. Vegans need reliable sources of vitamin B-12, such as fortified foods or supplements.

Dr Callum Roberts, a Professor of Marine Conservation at the University of York, explained the human consequence: If the oceans die we certainly will. Yet we kill more fish per year than all the humans who have lived on Earth, ever. Many of the fish we catch are simply thrown over the side because they’re over quota or the wrong species, or they’re not quite big enough. We can’t take as much as we like. We’re overfishing the oceans. We’re causing a decline in marine life. What’s needed is a political leadership which says this is a real problem. If we act decisively, we can bring them back from the brink.
A simpler and more realistic solution would be for every one to become vegan, things won't improve where politics or the capitalist machine is the driving force. Becoming a vegan is a solution that is within our individual grasp. It is simple, cheaper, peaceful and inordinately effective. The rewards for your health and well being are equally staggering.

Keegan Kuhn, who co-created Cowspiracy, told UNILAD: The leading cause of water pollution around the world is animal agriculture. Animals produce a tremendous amount of waste and that waste ends up in our waterways. That water is washed out to sea and creates zones so polluted with nitrogen, they’re devoid of all life because there’s no oxygen left in the water.

Being a vegan is cheaper than eating meat, chickens, diary, fish and eggs. Most diary farmers are stuggling and need to be subsidised. Becoming plant farmers instead will be more profitable for less work.

Becoming vegan is a more productive use of available land. It will improve the "smell of the country", fields full of plants are going to smell better than fields of cows. Becoming vegan reduces the pollution caused by farming animals. But what about health? A study says that a vegan diet is suitable for all stages of life. Vitamins that are needed are A, C, D, E, K, B6, B12, protein, calcium. All these can be obtained from plants except vitamin D (mushrooms) and B12. B12 can be obtained from animals but this is largely because the animals are injected with it. Naturally, B12 can be obtained from duckweed, soil. We don't like to eat soil because of salmonella but this comes from animal faeces. Most people take paracetamol or aspirin every day. What is wrong with taking B12 supplements to offset animal cruelty.

We should be vegan because there is no reason to eat meat apart from what we think is right because of our upbringing and conditioning. Land of hope and glory

We spend a lot of time, energy, and money trying to fit in, we are taught that if we don't conform we will be victimized. Eg, conscientious objectors during the war. There is something wrong with you if you don't like football, are squeamish and soft if you don't like hunting and fishing. You get picked on at school if you are different. If you like different music, wear different clothes or have different skin colour, height, size, sexuality, or religion, society needs scapegoats. This force is very powerful, take smoking, for example, it's not an easy thing to learn and yet children learn it just to fit in and show how tough they are.

Why be vegan?

We already produce enough crops to feed the world but using it to feed to animals for the meat industry is alot more profitable. It is the pursuit of profit that has caused all the worlds problems, by becoming vegan you use the supply and demand chain of events to stop the abuse and slaughter of 74 billion land animals and 2.7 trillion sea creatures with the side benefits of reduced green house gases, deforestation of the rain forest, the pollution of the sea, the destruction of natural habits and landscapes. More CO2 is produced by cows that the whole of the transport industry.

Like us, these animals embody the mystery and wonder of consciousness.

Like us, they are not only in the world, they are aware of it.

Like us, they are the psychological centres of a like that is uniquely their own.

There isn't a legal definition or formal standard for free range pigs, so farmers can label any pigs, kept in any conditions, as free range.

Only 3 percent of pigs will spend their entire lives out doors.

Female pig artifically inseminated over and over for 3 to five years and then slaughtered for cheap grade meat.
